Approval

I can't seem to believe that I am approved.  It seems so surreal.  When I called the surgeons office, the lady who answered the phone says "so you heard the good news?"  WTF and you didn't call me?  Are these people mental?  Oh well, she said that I would have to wait until tomorrow to schedule a date.  The lady that does that was off today.  Said that she would call me first thing in the morning.  We did go over the calendar a bit and she said that what I was looking at wasn't unattainable.  I really would like the week of the 7th of June.  I actually have NOTHING written on my calendar that week.  No appointments coming in at work so I would sit for a week and do nothing.  Nothing scheduled for Boy Scouts.  A glorious week all together.  Plus my b'day is Saturday the 4th.  I wasn't going to have a b'day cake anyway, but pre-op diet gives me an excuse to not get upset about it!

I am trying to figure out however how much time I should take off work.  I have very easy desk job.  Sometimes I have to go out in the field, but since school will not be in session that will be avoidable.  Also, the week that I am looking at is a no court week for me.  I am however not tied to my desk.  If I want to get up and walk around, I can.  I set my own appointments and even if I have someone coming in, I don't have to see them if I don't feel good (people really don't complain even if they do show up if their probation officer doesn't need to talk to them today).  I don't want to take too much time off because I want to save my time, but I don't want to push it too hard either.  Any suggestions?

I had my surgery on Wednesday and back at work on Monday. I could have definitely taken a few more days off. The desk is fine but its the getting up and down from the chair. Always had to hold my port/tummy. Congrats again. You are gonna love the new YOU!

Congrats on approval! How exciting.
I took 2 weeks off work- but my hospital had a pretty firm rule that they would not write you back until your 2 week appointment. I definitely needed the first week, but could have worked the 2nd. Everyone's different - some people go to work a few days later with no problem. I would err on the side of caution.

I think a week would be reasonable. I think it takes that long to completely recover from the anesthetic if nothing else!

I felt like being up and moving pretty much straight away. In fact I found it uncomfortable to be lying down. Sitting was my best position :-)

Ha Ha. I took 4 weeks off. But just because I could. Paid sick leave and I had lots of weeks. I actually wanted 6, my surgeon said 2 so we compromised on 4. I would have been fine going back week 3 (actually only 18 days post-op). If things are easy, you should be good. And if you find it hard, maybe they will let you leave.

Congrats, you are on your way now! What a great birthday present to you too. I had my surgery on a Monday and was back to work the following Monday. I have a job very similar to yours and that wasn't a concern. I was, however, really tired and would've liked a couple of more days home. It was the dead of winter too though, and I had an hour of travel every day, so that didn't help.

Again, congrats! Very excited for you.

I had surgery on a Friday and went back to work (desk job) on Wednesday - no trouble at all. Great news!!!

Congrats on your approval. I too have an office job and had surgery on 4/26...I returned the following Monday. It doesn't happen to everyone but unfortunately I'm going through some serious and continuing port site pain that apparently comes with sitting erect all day long. If you can afford to...take the 2nd week to heal. I wish I had.

My doc said a week should be fine.

I'm in and out of the car all day so kind of active. I had surgery on Thursday and was back to work the following Tuesday part time and Wednesday full time. I could have used at least a week but I didn't have any complications so it was doable.
Congrats on your approval! My band is almost 2 months old and it's great!

Wow! I was a complete whimp and took off an entire month!!! And, I have a desk job! Looking back, I could have went back after a week but after working full time for 27 years--only taking off 6 weeks for each childbirth--I figured I deserved it! LOL!
Congrats on your approval!
Onward!

Congratulations on the approval! So awesome!

Sorry to be chiming in so late...but...

I had surgery on a Monday and was back to work the following Monday. I, like previous commenters, was more comfortable sitting up - although getting up and down is painful or at least downright uncomfortable. But, going back to work that Monday, I didn't realize that sitting generally still for 8 hours solid was just going to be brutal. It's quite a bit different than sitting on your couch or in your bed. I didn't make it through that day before the pain ran out of control and I had to leave early - I think I made it through five hours. I'd been off the vicadin (Lortab) for three days at that point, when I went back to work, but I had to run straight for the vicadin when I got home. And I was down for the count on Tues. I did go back to work that weds and I was ok, but that week was brutal and rough. If you can take 7-8 days and just have a short week that week you go back, that would make a difference. But knowing what I know now, I'd take 2.

A late comment here, but I had surgery on Wednesday and was back to work on Monday. I work a desk job and only work 5 hours days, but I could have worked another three (since I did work from home in the afternoons). I have no paid sick time (or vacations) so perhaps I had more motivation to stay at work. (I also work all alone in my office ... there are only two employees in our Fire District... so I had a lot of freedom in my office to just hang and space out if I needed to.)
